SARS-CoV-2 S glycoprotein (HEK293, His-mFc)

The SARS-CoV-2 S glycoprotein is pivotal in infection, binding to the ACE2 receptor for virion attachment to the host cell membrane. Cleavage of S2/S2' initiates fusion at the cell membrane or internalization via endocytosis. It may also use NRP1/NRP2 and integrin as alternative receptors, potentially explaining tropism in olfactory epithelial cells. Acting as a class I viral fusion protein, it undergoes irreversible conformational changes during entry, with three states: pre-fusion native, pre-hairpin intermediate, and post-fusion hairpin, involving a trimer-of-hairpins structure in fusion.
