TIM-3/HAVCR2 protein regulates immune response to pathogens, interacting with LGALS9 on infected macrophages to restrict bacterial growth. It enhances CD8+ T-cell responses and acts as a receptor for phosphatidylserine, mediating phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. It promotes conjugation of apoptotic cells and TNF-alpha secretion in dendritic cells, but suppresses nucleic acid-mediated immune response and NK cell function. It interacts with various proteins, including HMGB1, BAG6, PIK3R, FYN, VAV1, AKT1/2, LCP2, ZAP70, SYK, SH3BP2, SH2D2A, LCK, PLCG, and ILF3, promoting ILF3 degradation.
